The Career & Technical Pathway is designed for students who want to enter the workforce after high school with the skills, experience, and credentials employers are looking for. Through this pathway, students gain hands-on training in high-demand career fields while earning a valuable college credential.

In addition to a high school diploma, students graduate with an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree, preparing them for entry-level careers in growing industries. These programs combine classroom instruction with real-world, career-focused learning, giving students a competitive advantage as they begin their professional journey.

Whether your goal is to launch your career immediately after graduation or continue your education later, an AAS degree provides the knowledge, technical skills, and experience to help you succeed.

General Course Information

  • All High School Core Courses are taught at the Honors level.
  • College Classes are designated by 3 letters & 3 numbers.
  • College Courses must receive a C or better to transfer to a 4-year institution.
  • Students on the AAS pathways will follow the general AA/AS pathways for the first 2 years.
  • Students on the AAS pathway will generally need to stay for a 13th Super Senior year.

Super Senior 13th Year
Students in the AAS program needing to stay for a Super Senior year will be allowed to participate in graduation at the end of 12th grade with their class, but will not receive their diploma until the end of the 13th year.  Students during this year will take courses this year to finish out their AAS degree.  If a student finishes all needed courses by the end of fall semester of the Super Senior Year, they will be considered an Early Graduate and not need to take any classes in the spring semester.

  • This degree provides students with the skills to develop software for a broad range of devices. The courses not only teach students how to write programs, but students will also learn how to test and debug programs and learn how to use integrated development environments which make creating computer programs simpler, fun, and exciting.

    Graduates will be able to support the software development needs of businesses in a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, insurance, finance and software publishing.

  • Rowan-Cabarrus Community College recently became officially designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education (CAE2Y) through academic year 2019, a feat that establishes the College as one of the nation’s academic trailblazers in the area of cybersecurity. Jointly sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the CAE2Y program recognizes colleges and universities that have made significant contributions in meeting the national demand for cyber defense education, developing a number of professionals with cyber defense expertise and ultimately contributing to the protection of the national information infrastructure.

    Upon completion of the program, participants will be prepared for lucrative careers in both local and national industries such as law enforcement and banking. And our partnership with the NSA and DHS gives Rowan-Cabarrus students internship and field trips with these agencies.

  • Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology

    The air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration technology curriculum helps students with basic knowledge to develop the skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems. Students can also learn about mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, safety and more.

    Graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist in the start up, preventive maintenance, service, repair and/or installation of residential and light commercial systems. They will also have the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate an understanding of system selection and balance and advanced systems

  • The CMT program prepares students to supervise, manage, and inspect construction sites, buildings, and associated facilities. It focuses on materials and methods of modern construction, construction site safety, construction management fundamentals, professional construction supervision, labor relations, diversity training, construction documentation, scheduling, residential and commercial estimating, residential and commercial blueprint reading, resource and cost control, construction insurance and bonding, accident management and investigation, applicable construction law and regulations, employability, and communication skills.

  • The Electrical Systems Technology program is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.

    Training, which is mostly hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, programmable logic, controllers, industrial motor controls, the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require. Graduates of this program should qualify for a variety of careers in the electrical field as an on-the-job trainee or apprentice in the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.

  • The welding technology curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metal industry. Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes, robotics and CNC plasma cutting. Our program is further enhanced by virtual reality welding machines. Courses in math, blueprint reading, metallurgy, welding inspection and destructive and non-destructive testing provides the student the industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.

    Successful graduates of the welding technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in welding and metal working industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, welding-related self-employment and welding inspection.

  • The Light-Duty Diesel Technology program will focus on cars and trucks, with max towing capacity of 8,500 to 10,000 pounds, and small diesel generators. Graduates will be prepared to enter careers as entry-level technicians in the transportation industry, such as automotive repair shops.

  • Motorsports is a complex sport and varies based on venue (including air and water), level, vehicle, fuel, sponsorships and modifications. The motorsports curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform mid-management level functions in motorsports related companies.

    Course work includes instruction in motorsports fundamentals, principles of management, computer applications, accounting, business mathematics, marketing, advertising and sales promotion, and human relations.

  • The cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific and artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills.

    Students in the Cosmetology pathway must be able to provide transportation to the College Station Campus in Kannapolis.
