The Friday Five

Destination 2025 is our roadmap to the future for the students and families of Cabarrus County Schools. The 2024 Annual Report to the Community is an update on our progress and our goals as we move into year three of our strategic plan.

We are thankful for the many voices who contributed to this strategic plan and in doing so have shown their commitment to be a part of our journey. Stakeholder input, planning and design are evident in Destination 2025, which includes:

■ A renewed vision for student success;

■ A framework for academic and departmental goals and objectives ;

■ An expectation of excellence for students and staff ;

■ A commitment to community engagement; and

■ Measurable outcomes.

We look forward to continuing our journey together as we set a course for Destination 2025.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment, we want to remind families that any threats made against schools are taken with the utmost seriousness.

In North Carolina, threats of violence against educational institutions are classified as a Class H felony as are false reports of violence. This means that any individual found making a threat against a school, whether in person, online, or via any other form of communication, may face severe legal consequences as well as placement in an alternative learning environment.

It is crucial to have conversations with children about the serious nature of these offenses. Even if intended as a joke or a prank, threats can lead to widespread fear, disruption to the learning environment, and costly investigations. We ask parents to help us communicate this message to our students and reinforce the importance of safe, respectful behavior.

Additionally, please remember that the Say Something Anonymous Tipline is the best resource to report any concerning or suspicious activities. If your child or you become aware of any potential threats or behaviors that could compromise school safety, please use the tipline to report it anonymously.

Working together, we can foster a safe and positive atmosphere where students feel secure and focused on learning.

Light up the season with your talent!

Holiday traditions return to Downtown Concord next month! The City of Concord’s 27th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, presented by Eli Lilly, will take place on Friday, November 22, and the 96th Concord Christmas Parade, presented by TrueCare Pharmacy, is on Saturday, November 23.

 

Both events are free and filled with family-friendly fun and entertainment for all ages, plus fireworks on Friday night. Many of our CCS students will be participating in the events, so come out and support them and enjoy these time-honored traditions.

Cabarrus County Schools will be co-hosting a free webinar with The College Funding Coach® on October 30th at 7:00pm. This virtual event is for any family wanting to learn how to pay for college.

 

The College Funding Coach® was founded in 2002 to help families better understand the complexities of paying for college and how to make higher education more affordable. Since that time, The College Funding Coach® team has been on a mission to help families save on the high cost of higher education. They have established an approach that helps parents understand the college funding process, reduce their out-of-pocket expenses, and balance the challenge of saving for college and retirement simultaneously.

CCS Families of juniors and seniors:

Cabarrus County Schools will be hosting an in-person session with College Foundation of North Carolina on November 19th at 6:30 pm at Jay M Robinson High School. This event is intended for parents of juniors or seniors in high school regarding how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and other important financial aid and scholarship resources. We hope to see you there!
